On March 9, Sherrill Milnes appears as a special guest at the New York City Opera Renaissance spring gala as part of a tribute to City Opera music director Julius Rudel. The American baritone will honor the late maestro’s memory in a program that also hears performances from Plácido Domingo and Frederica von Stade. The sold-out event will take place at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater.
In the same week, Sherrill joins the Metropolitan Opera Guild for Incomparable: A Celebration of Licia Albanese and Carlo Bergonzi at John Jay College’s Gerald W. Lynch Theater. Hosted by Patricia Racette, the tribute to the two late singers will include rare video selections, reminiscences from Sherrill among other honored guests including Martina Arroyo, Marilyn Horne, and Renata Scotto, and a vocal tribute from tenor Vittorio Grigolo.
